Project 1: Animated Infographic Poster

INSTRUCTIONS

PROCESS

For this assignment we were supposed to find 3 infographic posters that we choose to redesign and animate, and I decided to go for food related infographics as I do find them interesting to redesign. I picked a few that caught my eye to redesign and I think I'm heading towards the right poster to redesign as it is lacking a few information and the wording is too small.

Figure 1. Infographic posters.

I decided to go for the pho infographic as its straightforward for the information. I gained some reference off the internet to know what I wanted. Then I sketched out the poster design I wanted. I put the main image which is the pho in the centre to emphasize the the poster a lot more.

About Pho: Pho ("fuh") is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup with aromatic broth, flat rice noodles, and meat, typically beef or chicken. The soup broth develops its rich deep flavours when pho is cooked with spices like star anise and cinnamon. This traditional Vietnamese food started in Northern Vietnam before becoming an international favourite.

Figure 2. Sketch for the poster.

This was the first idea that I did on Adobe Illustrator. The overall design is there it just felt a little plain as I didn't add anymore colours, like shadows or make the illustration look more 3d rather than it looking just flat. I wanted the idea of going for a hand drawn version but wasn't sure on how to proceed.

After receiving feedback, I knew what to do next, so I decided to go for the hand drawn version to test it out. I used Procreate for the entire process, and it turned out nicer than I thought so I decided to use this as my finalized work.

The colours I chose where mostly yellow/ red because Vietnam seems to have those 2 colours on their flags and I though it would be fitting enough to use those colours. My idea behind the floating foods, was to show different variation in the ingredients of Pho.

Figure 6. The animated infographic

This is the short animation I did, I wasn't sure on which part to animate, to I just went the the words and made them pop out. I used adobe express for the entire process to help me animate the words as it did make it also look nice in a way. The words appear in a zig zag motion as its revealing the main ingredients in a bowl of Pho.

FEEDBACK

Specific: At first the poser I created looked a little bland and boring and was told that I need to make it look nicer and then make the text bigger. The texts should be in zig zag way so its easier to be read. For the animation part, I had to make the text bigger as well as remove the subtitles.

General: For the poster we just had to make the text bigger. Then utilise the space of the entire page. Don't add to much information in the poster, have to think about if people would read it or not.

REFLECTION

Experience: This assignment has taught me many things, the experience was challenging as it required me to think about the ideas on how to redesign the poster to make it even better and learning how to make it visually engaging and easy to understand.

Observation: By observing a lot on Pinterest and searching on YouTube for ways to create my animated infographic has helped to start thinking on where to start. Asked a few of my classmates for how they did their work so I have a bit of help and motivation on where to start.

Findings: I learnt about the LATCH and I implement it onto this infographic poster. With the feedback given, I learnt a few things on the design principles and applied them onto this assignment. In future assignments this information would definitely be useful.
