TASK 3 - PROPOSAL
We were tasked to do create a font based on these three options:
- Create a font that is intended to solve a larger problem/ part of a solution in the area of your interest.
- Explore existing letterforms in an area of interest.
- Experimental design.
WORK IN PROGRESS
WEEK 9
The task was to create a presentation proposal for 3 ideas from the options given. The ideas shown were psych hand lettering which was to explore more into the Greek lettering and apply it to the modern world in music posters. Then second idea was an expansion of an existing typeface, so I picked the the one I did in task 2, because I feel like it can be explored further and make it better. Then lastly is the implementing the Iban Pua kumbu textile onto modular typefaces.

I decided to go with the expansion, because there is still a lot more to explore on. The theme for this is related to speed so I decided to use the Formula 1 font 'Torque F1' as reference for the expansion idea.

I sketched the letterforms out first on Procreate, and find different ways I can make it work. This is all the uppercase letterforms.
WEEK 10
For this week I sketched it out on procreate first, to see what I can work with and see what I likes. This was the variation I went for, since it is similar to my task 2 work and it has the curves of the font I'm referencing off.

Before continuing to the punctuations, we were tasked to watch a video to help have a better understanding on how to do the punctuations.

After Mr. Vinod's feedback, I had to redo the letterforms and create my own as I just followed the reference and altered it. So I spent some time creating a new font and I decided to do something more bold and thick. I kept it simple so it's something I can follow.
I was tasked to only do the uppercase, numbers and punctuations only.

WEEK 12
FONT PRESENTATION
This is my progress throughout the FontForge process. I looked at the article the Mr. Vinod gave us and I learnt my way on how to use with he video. I had to adjust some of the letters kerning as it were far apart. When i exported the font and I tested it on Adobe there was an issue where it shows a square box but i fixed by setting the width of the space.

Here I tested the font to see the kerning spacing between each letter on FontForge. I realized some issues when I did this which was the lines that comes out is long and it overlaps over the letters.

I started creating the font presentation, I went through behance to see some inspiration and see which direction I wanna be heading onto. I decided to keep the theme with it being orange and keep the elements of lines for the fonts.

WEEK 13
FONT APPLICATION
I created my mockup designs on photoshop, and then designed them the way I wanted it to fit a Formula 1 themed. So I used mockups that could possibly be related to it.

4. FEEDBACK
Week 9:
General feedback: Fix the E-portfolio and update it.
Specific feedback: Go fix the E-portfolio as it is incomplete and needs more work in progress
in. Work seems to simple and need to do more, I tend to do the bare minimum and I need to put in more effort towards the class.
Week 10:
General feedback: Keep focusing on the recent tasks given and continue with lowercase and
punctuations.
Specific feedback: I haven't done much during this week so I'm catching up to a lot.
Week 11:
General feedback: Use the grid and make sure its the right sizing.
Specific feedback: I had to redo the typefaces on my own style and just do uppercase, numbers and punctuations.
Week 12:
General feedback: Complete the rest of the work and continue with the font presentation and the font application.
Week 13:
General feedback: Finalised everything by next week and make sure all the sizes are the same for the font application and expression.
Week 14:
General feedback: Mr. Vinod just went through the e-portfolios and gave feedback to everyone.
Specific feedback: Was to upload all the tasks for the final compilation and to make the reflection a little better.
5. REFLECTION
Experience: Throughout this task I made sure I really understood it by knowing I should've done my own font instead of finding another font and getting inspiration from that one. I tend to just go the easy route when it shouldn't be like that. But I experienced the process of making my own font by implementing something I did from task 2 by using the grid to make just come up with something from the top of my head. I did explore many ways that I can create this font.
Observation: By looking at other students example and work made me realize I could've done better and come up with something of my own. I looked at many examples on pinterest and behance to find for inspiration I liked.
Findings: Looking through behance and other work helped me with this task. I struggled a bit with understanding the font that I created, I had to redo from the start and make it from scratch. But I learnt my lesson and won't repeat the same mistake.
