1. LECTURES

WEEK 6

User Experience Research

UX research is all about the users and what they do, what they require, and how they feel when they use a product. It isn't just about making things look nice, but about making sure design actually works for the people it was made for. Redesigning an app must be done by remembering who exactly are the new users, rather than trying to appeal to the masses.

WEEK 7

UI/UX Document

User Personas are fictional and it is research-based that represents the target user. They include details like; demographics, goals and motivation, challenges and behavioral patterns. By using real data from the interview we were tasked to do and creating a different personality that would satisfy a target audience.

Qualities of an effective User Persona:

1. Use real data
2. Focus on the present
3. Context-Specific
4. Avoid Biases

WEEK 9

User journey map and digital card sorting

User Journey Map:
- It provides a visual representation of the steps an individuals takes to achieve a goal.
- Identifies the pain points encountered by users when interacting with a product.

We were tasked to create a user journey map with our personas w created the other week. Then identify the intended uses of the app.

WEEK 10

Sketching & Planning, Site Map

sketching is to bring your thinking out on paper and is out for everyone to see.
- no images
- no details
- no colors

Site Map

- Visual representation of a site or app content organization.
- Arrows or lines indicate the relationship between we pages and app interface.
- Card sorting insights can create a logical organization for the map.

Usability Testing

Try finding people thats closer to my personnel and test the app.
- Evaluating a product or service from representative users.

1. Account management
2. Navigation and exploration
3. Feature usage

3. WORK IN PROGRESS

User Research:
Conduct an interview and a survey questionnaire and find 5 people to interview. This will help me find what to improve within' the Guardian app in its design.

I have decided to conduct an interview to see what each user would think of the app Guardian and collect data. This was the research plan:

GOALS:

From this research, I want to learn the following:

  • To enhance the features like finding the weaknesses and get a solution to fix it.

  • Resolving the problems from the ratings from users.

  • Boost engagement for users to sign up as membership.

  • Eliminate lagging and delays when entering the app.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Entry level makeup users as well as healthcare and skincare users.

Mainly females for makeup and a few from males for skincare.

RESEARCH METHOD:

Conduct a face-to-face interview

  • Total number of interviews: 5 people

  • Estimated duration: 5-10 mins

RECRUITMENT:

  • Most genZ females as they are most likely to purchase makeup or skincare from the store.

  • Possibly my own friends or a friend of a friend.

Mr Sylvain had given us a template we could use to create the questions and how the order should be when asking.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

  1. OBJECTIVE

  •  To understand the main issue of what makes the user not use the app so often.

  • Improve the navigation flow of the app, keep it clean and organized.

  • Improve form registration form by including real time validation to save time for users.

  • Enhancing the visuals

  1. INTRODUCTION

  • Your interview topic area/ problem (This interview is based on the Guardian MY app)

  • Is it ok to record this interview

  1. ENTICE: Framing opening questions

  • Can you tell me about your interest in makeup?

  • Have you ever used the Guardian MY app? If yes, what made you want to try it? If no, have you ever thought about using it?

  • What type of products do you usually buy? Like skincare, makeup

  • Are you experienced in makeup or you’re just getting started?

  1. ENGAGE: Specific Questions

  • Have you ever ordered skincare/ makeup on an app? And how was your experience?

  • When was the last time you purchased a makeup or skincare product?

  • Describe your experience when shopping with Guardian.

  • How would you compare Guardian to other healthcare beauty apps?

  • How would you describe the product range in Guardian?

  • What beauty apps have you used before?

  • Have you struggled with finding the right product for you? If so, why? E.g not enough information, not specific enough..

  1. EXIT: Final Thoughts

  • Is there anything that you would like to comment on?

  1. EXTEND: Follow up and Next Steps

I chose 3 of the people from my interview that stood out to me the most as they did have experience in skin care and purchasing them online so, gaining their feedback was somewhat helpful.

Figure 3.1 Interview answers from a few candidates.

Mr. Sylvain tasked us to create 3 personas based of the interview and what good or bad things theses personas would have. I have then created the User journey map for each persona, to understand more about it.

Figure 3.2 Persona and User journey map.

This is the site map I created that is based on how the app should be like. The app should be a way to help new skincare users find their way through the app without having to guess what skin type they have.

4. FEEDBACK

Week 6:
The questions for my interview were too straight forward and to the point. I need to ask more in depth about if they ever used skincare and if they knew how to do it. I just had to adjust some of my questions but other than that it seems fine.

Week 7:
Each personas should have their own thing and not all the same way. So far be specific about the strengths and weaknesses. Also try to come up with ways things people complain about the app in a way.

Week 10:
I tend to focus more on the same thing, and make it more evenly spread out between personas.

Week 11:
Understand more about what the user is looking for, and design it in a way it would actually help the user in finding the product that would suit them. I focused more on the basics of an app like the homepage instead of figuring out a way to help new skincare users on how to find the right product for them.

5. REFLECTION

Experience:
Throughout this module, I've learnt about personas and it kind of helped me have an idea on where to start for this assignment. It was helpful as i didn't struggle as much but the learning process of it would definitely help for future tasks. I understand more of the users needs when interviewing and realizing the key problems and with the feedback given from the lecturer, it also helped me go through this task smoothly.

Observation:
By observing the seniors work helped me as well. Since it was Mr Sylvain first time teaching, it was still a fun time to be taught by him as he is good at explaining but there are things I tend to miss out. But with help of classmates it also gave me more knowledge on what to do.

Findings:
When i first created the user journey map it was interesting to me because I would never go through what a user is feeling and their emotions when they want to purchase a product through an app. It was all intriguing to me and it helped me understand more for the user satisfaction.
