6. 0360677 / Lim Zhi Yuan / UI/UX
7. 0378712 / Diane Wan / UI/UX

Week 2
All the topics were briefed specifically and our group had to decide on which one we preferred on doing. Then started on some brief research about ‘Period Poverty’ in China. With what we want to do, we started to do a group meeting and settle how we can proceed.

Week 3
This week, we gathered all the information about period poverty in China and started discussing the meetings with the client to talk about our project on period poverty. We had to find out who struggles with period poverty like students or any community programs that help with assisting on menstrual issues.

After the meeting the group had spent time doing research, and we have decided to focus on how period poverty differs from the Volunteers and the Students. We spent the week reading through the interviews to get a better understanding on the volunteers and students.

With the research being done, we realised period poverty in China is a sensitive topic as many struggle with it. Our thought was to make a education website base on the information we gathered so students can learn more about it and educate themselves.

Week 4
With all the research we decided to see who our target audience is, and the ones working on the research proposal spent time figuring out who to interview and how to get in touch with them. We have decided that the target audience should be focused on students aged between 14 and 19, as well as volunteers who have had experienced in this issue. By choosing this group of audiences, we get to understand how period poverty affects the young people in school. YangYang and Zhou Yutong proposed the interview questions.

Since me and Zhi Yuan aren’t from China we had difficulties in communicating with them. So the other teammates were in charged of the parts and they informed us on what was going on and kept us up to date for the information the interviewee gave.

Week 5
This week we started the actual interview process and now that the plan is ready it was time to talk to the students first that are aged between 14-19. Before starting we made sure all the interviewee signed a consent form, to make sure they are okay with us recording the information down.

After the interview is done, the recording had to be transcribed and translated to english since it was done in Chinese. Then write a summary of what has been said.

Week 6
During this week we took all the notes down and summarise everything to put in the figmaJam. We all worked together to create three main things which are a User persona, and Empathy Map, and a User Journey Map.

By creating a User Persona it will help us with character profiling, like the first one is a student facing period poverty. Then the second one is a doctor who practices Chinese medicine. Giving our user a name and story makes them like a real person and it helps us focus on who we are basing it on.

Then next we created an empathy map and this helped us dig deeper into what the personas are feeling and sees about their situation. We mentioned about their worries and the things that make their lives difficult. By making an empathy map, it helps us understand the problem in how they feel.

Lastly is the User Journey Map where we drew out the steps a student takes and the struggles they face in their personal life. This helped us see where the problems are. By looking at the user journey map, it helped us throughout this project by having ideas.

Week 7 & 8
For the next two weeks, we focused on the presentation that is presented on week 9 for updated progress. We have been working on it to explain our thought process into ways to express out ideas.

Week 9
With our feedback on our presentation, we didn’t satisfy our client with ways on why period poverty needs to be known. However the feedback received is going to help us make our final project better and we can learn from it.

Our group had a meeting to discuss ideas to represent period poverty. Since a website isn’t the ideal best way to promote it we have decided to create a card game base on period poverty for educational purposes, as this will gain better attention towards our target audience.

Week 10
After we confirmed our final design and choice of how the game is going to work, we had to progress fast on the prototype design and game rules.

Week 11 & 12
Within the 2 weeks, we shared our physical card game with our volunteers and students, to get feedback from it. Due to limitations this was the best way for us to proceed.

To advertise the game, we had to think of ways to promote it, so there is a poster design in Chinese, since our project was more focused in China, the poster explained the game rules and how to set it up. Between the posters and the volunteers, we were able to get students to learn and play.

Week 13
This week the prototype was printed out. Since the students are young, it was hard to talk to them directly due to privacy from parents so we had to ask the volunteers to test it and give us feedback.

To make sure we got the data we wanted, we prepared interviewed questions. Which was one before and after the game.

Before the testing:

- Teaching about periods was awkward and didn’t know how to proceed.
- Students were shy, especially the boys as they didn’t know what to say and were hesitant.
- The volunteer didn’t feel very confident because they didn’t have the right tools.

After the testing:

- The game made the classroom feel more comfortable about talking about periods.
- Students are practising and talked about how to stop the stigma around periods.
- Volunteers feel more confident that the game gave them a of a better insight.

Week 14
This is the presentation slides that has our final outcomes, that covers our chosen direction, functional prototypes, and the insights we gathered throughout the module.

FEEDBACK

Week 3
We need to focus on the interviews and for each one we needed to get the recordings and video transcribed, to help us collect data. As well as there was issue with he problem statement, so had to fx that a bit.

Week 4
We had to use inspiration and motivation from other groups because there are some parts we did wrongly.

Week 9
After the presentation we had more of a critical feedback, as our presentation wasn’t fully what we had to do and we needed to do a lot more fixing to do. We did not focus on the how and why reasons of period poverty. Also to come up with a better way to promote period poverty.

Week 10
We had to focus more on the user journey map and make one for each persona since we only made one that are both combined which was wrong. So we redid that part.

Week 11
Do minor adjustments on the card and complete the final presentation.

REFLECTION

Throughout this module, at first I wasn’t sure on how to proceed with the chosen topic of period poverty. But with all the group discussions I had a but of an understanding on how to progress on the topic. There was some up and downs and struggles in this module but I managed to go through. It has helped me gain a better understanding on period poverty and acknowledge more about how it affects others in a way. We managed
